Many leaders are taking time to reflect and dream as 2011 comes to a close. Reflection and vision casting are important disciplines for every leader. BUT to implement GOALS for 2012 which come from your time of reflecting and dreaming, you must implement these 5 HABITS to effectively accomplish the dream and realize the vision.
1. Invest Time. Every leader must make an investment of time to THINK, STUDY, INVEST in RELATIONSHIPS, TRY NEW THINGS and much more. Schedule time to invest in these important elements is a must for every leader.
2. Create Better Timelines. Treat goals like projects. This simple step can help you succeed in more of your goals in 2012. Timely action steps can create the proper momentum to keep the dream alive. Create milestones along the way with your timeline. These milestones will give you pause to celebrate or to make the proper corrective steps to get back on task in fulfilling the goal.
3. Give Consistent Effort. Resolve to make one forward step toward the goal each day. This requires discipline and consistent effort. It is easy to be distracted by the necessity of the "right now" which may not be as significant as giving more EFFORT to the vision God has given you. This will create greater momentum and efficiency in accomplishing the dream.
4. Create Frequent Reminders. Once you have identified the proper goals discovered in reflection, capturing them on paper is easy. Keeping these goals constantly before you as the year unfolds can be more challenging. Therefore, create frequent reminders to keep your goals in front of you. You could use post-it notes in your office, or reminders on your calendar. Next, read your goals daily. Take every opportunity to discuss them with others, especially your team.
5. Raise Expectations. Many of us have experienced the defeat of an unaccomplished goals. Don't let this mindset paralyze you to raising your expectations for these goals. Expect to reach these goals with these new habits you have put in place. Expect to overcome the stumbling blocks which have tripped you up in the past. Raised expectation will not only help you but it will help your organization as a whole.
Your actions on your goals will inspire others. It will inspire your team. It will inspire your organization.
Enjoy the journey of changing your future!
