20- Minute Communities (PDX20)

A 20-minute community is defined as everything you need for life within a 20-minute walk! Currently, Portland has 95 neighborhood associations and 2/3 of them would be described as 20-minute communities.  Portland's 25 year city plan is to aggressively grow the current 20-minute communities infrastructure while creating new 20-minute communities throughout Portland.

WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH in these 20-minute communities?
Michael Frost (Australian missiologist and author) says we have confused the mission of the church. The churches mission has become more about membership, moving people into the lifestyle of the church, instead of; in his words, “the mission of the church is to identify where God’s reign or rule is unfolding in our NEIGHBORHOODS, always in the context of place observable in relationships, beauty and justice.” The mission of the church begins on my front doorstep and on your front doorstep in your particular PLACE. Our work, and the mission of the church, is to alert people to the reign of God through Christ in our place, then the places beyond our doorstep.

We need people and teams to come invest their life in one of these 20-minute PLACES (neighborhoods) in order to see God's Kingdom expanded in the life of the people here and new churches formed as a result.  Would you pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send laborers to the 20-minute communities of Portland?
