Seeding a Missional Community in the Neighborhood

Recently David Fitch posted on 5 issues to be discerned in seeding a new community. Read the article online at RECLAIMING THE MISSION.

(This list assumes the Gospel sower/planter is seeking God's guidance, and listening to the community.)

1. Discern the 3 (4 or 5) LEADERS.
A. A team
B. on the same page
C. BI-vocational
D. Compliment one another
(APEPT)
* THE 3 (4 OR 5), THE 12, THE
120
2. They must LAND (as opposed to launch). Landing equates to living in the neighborhood, finding jobs, starting a rhythm of life for the community, a worship gathering, a communal meal, etc.

3. EXEGETE the Community (as opposed to doing a market survey). Following Luke 10: place and people to bless, the marginalized, and persons of peace. Here we discover the work of the Kingdom.

4. TEACH Missional Rhythms. We learn to inhabit and live among the PLACE God has put us. We listen, pay attention, and take notice of the people on our pathway. We visit places regularly. We seek to be present among the marginalized (Luke 10:3, 7 ).

5. Prepare for a sustainable way of life over a long period of time. Growth is slow sowing among those whose hearts are still far from God. It takes 5 years to develop a missional presence. In the 5-8 year growth will happen.
