Reading some reviews of .....
Entrepreneur Equation by Carol Roth which is due out in March.
Why? Because I work with Church Planters who have to be entrepreneurs. And the fact is, most lead from passion and not from a skill set given them by God to start something new.
In the church world, we are "called" to do something or start something (I think we have one calling--we are called to Jesus who calls us to one thing --"make disciples" why loving Him and loving our neighbor as ourself).
Church Planter after church planter tells me they are called to "start something new," but should they? Perhaps, they are called to participate in what God is doing in starting something new (making disciples) in a neighborhood or community, but as part of the team and not the leader of the team.
Carol asks two great questions for those "called":
1. Should I be an entrepreneur.? and...
2. Why do I want to be an entrepreneur.?
She also deals with the "Passion" equation. Saying, "Passion is not enough! Ideas are meaningless without execution."
Passion is part of Roth's consulting firms formula for start ups: FIRED-UP
Finances
Inspiration
Responsibilities
Experience
Unbridled Passion
She then forces us to consider: "Do I have the drive, the capital, the experience, the crazyness to pull this off?"
Great ideas to process as you and I think about starting something new, whether it is a church plant or a small business.
I look forward to reading her book and seeing how it further applies to new starts and non-profits.
